The Helsinki Impact Conference celebrates the Finnish EU Presidency and the city driven future of the European community. The Conference calls for the empowerment of European cities as global impact makers in creating better urban futures for us all. Cities are the glue that holds the European Union together.
European cities form a strong network, where inspiring conversations and change-creating dialogues take place daily. Yet, even closer connections are required to improve understanding between political decision makers, practical operators and most importantly, our citizens. We all need opportunities to actively shape and co-create our cities into more open, tolerant and enjoyable places.
We live in an era, where the world is facing a climate crisis, increasing inequality and political uncertainty. The undesirable symptoms are especially evident in rapidly growing cities. Systemic change is needed to create lasting, positive change for our cities and societies. Solidarity, education, openness and ability to mobilise rapid change are at the heart of creating compassionate and meaningful solutions both globally and locally. The European community, which is built on the common values of peace, equality and joint liability, is further fostered or regressed within our cities. In the end, the European Union is only as strong as its cities and neighbourhoods are.
We, as city makers, can lead change by being open to fresh ideas and innovative partnerships and making our cities and neighbourhoods empowered from within. Creating resilience is about sharing power, opening resources and learning from each other. Long-term city planning, combined with practical actions that can be implemented today, create the best possible platforms for ensuring sustainability and ability to react to rapid change.
The Conference gives an extensive insight into the state of European cities as a network of urban change-makers and presents best practice examples of cohesive urban planning. European decision-makers, city officials, urban planners, academic researchers, innovative private sector actors and citizens are brought together to share views on how cities act as global change-makers and play a key role in sustainable city futures.
Speakers include inspirational urbanists, who have taken an active role in driving positive change for our cities. Together, they create a dynamic storyline of our cities, discussing key topics, such as digital transition, climate change, social cohesion and shared power.
The Helsinki Impact Conference seeks to turn inspiration into real impact through collaboration and commitment to turn best practices into standard practices across all European cities.
